This is an interesting short story that I started reading without really knowing what to expect. It follows a youngin named Illix who has just received his seed. We don’t really know much about this process, but what is revealed is definitely not what I was expecting.

The Short Review:
I thoroughly enjoyed India Emerald’s writing style. She uses playful language that doesn’t distract from the story all while pushing the plot along. The main character’s development was believable and the struggles he faces are heart wrenching. Aside from Illix, it seemed the story of Cris ended prematurely and I wish the author had elaborated a little bit more on this. In addition, there is a jolting POV switch that I wasn’t ready for. Perhaps this is the intent of the author, but I’m not sure.
While I wish there was more time spent on this Head Leaf and the world Illix lives in, I still found the story intriguing. It is a short, little read filled with big surprises!
