Aaricem is in a state of crisis and two young teenagers are smack dab right in the middle of it. As Luna and Ryker’s worlds get tangled together, they soon discover that they aren’t exactly normal and everything that they’ve known is about to get turned upside down. Ame Terra’s Earth No. 105 will have you captivated by its characters and so enthralled with their stories that you won’t want to put the book down.
The Review:
First let me just say that words can’t describe how much I loved this book. From the start, it had me wanting to know what was going on, why the disaster was happening, and from the get go I wanted to know if the main characters would survive. Ame Terra does a really good job of making you love her characters.
Ryker, a teenage boy who lives in Cetabri City within Aaricem, thought he was just an average teen, living with his mom and a dad he doesn’t know anything about or where he is. But it turns out Ryker is definitely not as normal as he thought. He happens to have powers and somehow they’re all tied up with this new girl named Luna that he soon has a major crush on. At first I didn’t like Ryker, particularly since he seemed like he was just a player who had a summertime girl, hit it and quit it type of attitude. But for the rest of the book he actually doesn’t seem to be that way, so I’m not really sure why he was portrayed like a jerk in the beginning. Either way, if you don’t like him at the start, don’t worry he’ll grow on you.
Luna is the girl he meets with eyes like the moon. She seems to have a weird tie to Ryker, even though she tries to stay away from him they seem to keep getting thrown together by everyone around them including their Economics teacher Mr. Mannes, later known as Carel. I like Luna. She is strong, caring, and protective of the ones she loves. She also has a strong power that she learns to control very quickly.
My favorite story by far is of Tova. She is basically a single mother of two, a girl named Galla and a teen boy named Odin. She has a nanny, her name is Rena, and husband named Shem who lives far away and I’m sure has been cheating on her. Why she stayed with him for so many years is beyond me. But the jerk got what was coming to him and while I think Tova might not have handled it all correctly, this is what makes her real. She makes mistakes, but she is a survivor which makes her strong. Her friend Alina, a character I’m not sure what to think about but more on that later, saves her and her family, hiring a bodyguard named Jash to protect her. Jash seemed to fall in love with Tova a little too quickly, but it wasn’t a super big deal because I totally wanted him to! Of course I’m excited and hopeful that Jash and Tova will be together. I hope, at least.
Alina seems strange and, though she saved Tova and her family, I’m not exactly sure what to make of her. We don’t know a lot about her, just that she’s involved in government, super important, and there’s an event in the book that will leave you wondering what she’s up to. I won’t say anymore as I don’t want to give anything away.
Now for the villain. Here’s where I got a little confused. I didn’t quite understand what was driving Danna. She just destroys everything because it’s not perfect? Or just because she’s bored? There’s something I’m missing, maybe I missed it in this book, but something other than a love she can’t have would be driving her. She must have lost someone, something, or maybe she really is just that evil. If she really is that one dimensional, then wow she is evil. The book doesn’t spend a whole lot of time on her, just little snippets to tease you along, but what I gathered was that she is a control freak, a perfectionist, can have love (or I’d call it lust), and is definitely a villain.
The story mainly jumps back and forth between the Ryker/Luna story and Tova’s. These two stories follow the struggles Earth No. 105 now faces and what they must do to survive. I have yet to discover how Tova’s story and the Ryker/Luna story are related, but I’m hoping some of this will come to light in Ame Terra’s sequel Earth No. 105: Birth which I can’t wait to read.
So, really. Who is leader? Well, you’ll have to read the book to find out!
