Want to celebrate 31 days of Halloween before NaNoWriMo?
I’ve decided to give NaNoWriMo this November a shot in order to finish the last and final book in my Tompkin’s School trilogy, but before then I want to soak up all the Halloween celebrations I can get!
What is NaNoWriMo?
NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month and is a nonprofit organization that encourages writers to complete 50k words during the month of November. Which is no easy thing for me, but I’ve got a plan and come November I’ll be writing up a storm.
As some of you remember back in July I participated in Camp NaNoWriMo and finished victoriously! The camps are more flexible and allow you to set your own word count goal. But come November it means business. It has to be 50,000 words. So, to celebrate October and countdown the days until the madness begins, I’ll be celebrating the 31 days of Halloween!
How to Celebrate 31 Days of Halloween
Each week I’ll be watching Halloween movies and coming up with coordinating mocktails (or cocktails, if you wish) to go with the films and sharing them here.
Last night we kicked off the Halloween celebration with the 1991 version of The Addams Family (Which is a great way to begin things as it came out the year I was born, coincidentally).
To pair it off we enjoyed a lovely Pink Uncle Fester which is my take on this Uncle Fester cocktail.

- Fill rocks glass with a few ice cubes
- Fill half of the glass with part mineral water and part Cran/Blackberry juice
- Top with Sprite and stir
- Maraschino cherry for garnish
If you’d like to spike things up a bit here’s the cocktail version:
Pink Uncle Fester Cocktail
- 1.5 oz. Vodka
- 1/2 oz. Blackberry liqueur
- Combine in shaker over ice and mix
- In a rocks glass, pour combination into a glass over ice
- Top with Sprite
- Maraschino cherry for garnish
But what does this have to do with writing and being an author? It doesn’t!
Sometimes a writer’s got to take a break from the grind, sit back and relax in order to refuel those creative juices. What better way to do that than appreciating the dark humor and snappy dialogue of The Addams Family? Also, if you’re planning on seeing the remake next week you should definitely watch the nineties version first.
Now, sit back, relax, and let the spooktacular times roll!
